We have a pet rat that was mauled by a cat. Very few animal hospitals will see smaller exotic animals like fancy rats. Animal Ark was wonderful and cleared time for our pet to be seen right away given his serious injuries. They called and followed up and we went back two more times for additional antibiotics and other medications. Animal Ark was always friendly accommodating even for our little injured Rocky the rat, who has now made a full recovery :-)

It doesn't get better than Animal Ark. The staff is friendly and will treat your pet like theirs. Mitch Spindel is a wonderful veterinarian who has hired a great staff. The care they provide is personal.

The doctors are quite thorough, knowledgeable, and compassionate. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The best vet experience I have ever had!

Dr spindel is the best. Ive been going to animal ark for over 13 yrs with our pets. Very well pleased with their service.

This veterinarian tends to delete ANY negative reviews on other sites. They also report you to try to keep you quiet. This is a butcher shop that killed my baby. I had a beautiful pet chinchilla. I had begun noticing that he was drooling, which is an indicator of teeth issues. We took him to an emergency vet in Greensboro, who confirmed that drooling does mean that his teeth were bothering him. This vet was was not equipped for in depth treat of exotic animals, like actual emergency rooms, the know enough to stabilize the pet, and refer to more specialized with the pet. They referred us to this vet, not knowing they would butcher our beloved Maui. The emergency vet did provide something for pain, and we began hand feeding Maui. Once we did this we started to see marked improvement, his drooling had almost completely stopped; he had more energy, his eyes were brighter, he was inquisitive, and began eating his normal food again on his own. About a week later, we took Maui to Animal Ark. The first visit was on a Saturday. They saw him briefly and said, "yep that's his teeth, those need to come out." They prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and more pain medicine and wanted to do surgery that Monday. Maui was even more active, he was no longer drooling and had more energy than ever! He was so mischievous and inquisitive. I have videos of my baby playing that weekend. On Monday, he goes for surgery. They pulled 5 teeth, 5! My baby was a 1.5lb chinchilla, you wouldn't pull that many at once on a grown man. They called us to say he had been great right after surgery! But hadn't gotten worse and was on oxygen. That evening they still sent him home with us, even though it sounded like maybe he should stay overnight. When we saw him he was covered in blood, all of his fur matted in blood. We were terrified, he was also having trouble breathing. That night he slept in his carrier, by the bed so that I could hear his breathing. The following day his breath is still labored and we're still worried, so we call the vet to ask about it and the essentially said he was just healing. That night, we put him in a small cage with food, water, and a dust bath, next to his normal large cage, so that he could be closer from the cage mate he'd had his whole life. On Wednesday, we begin getting calls that we should bring him to the vet right away. I had to work, so my mother took him. When I was packing him up to go before work, I noticed that his eyes were brighter, he had used the dust bath to clean himself so not more blood matted fur...he appeared to be feeling a little better, though his breathing was still shallow. My mom took him to the vet where she spent four hours. They finally see and say that he looks good, he's just recovering, etc. But, they did give him a breathing treatment. When my mother got Maui home, he couldn't move. Could barely get his up. He was worse! 4 hours later he died. By that Wednesday evening...my baby was dead. I absolutely hold this vet responsible. Please, if you have an exotic pet go elsewhere. They should not be allowed to treat chinchillas, and I'd like to see to it that they don't in the future. I hope they get the joy of watching their loved one in immense pain, covered in blood, struggling to breathe, and unable to move. We could have kept him at home and he could have lived out his life being hand fed but happy and with his best friend.
